How it helps
Developmental editing focuses on the manuscript as a whole, including pacing, plot holes, thematic issues, structure, setting, and characterisation. Line and copy editing refine the way the writing reads on the page, improving clarity, flow, word choice, consistency, and technical correctness.
With The Works, you do not have to choose between story-level support and polished prose. You get both in one package, which makes the editing process simpler, cleaner, and easier to manage.

What it costs
The Works is priced per word, based on your manuscript’s final count, and the two rounds together come in 10% below booking them separately. You’ll get an exact quote before we start — no surprises.

The editing process
- Free sample edit — Send 1,500 words so we both know the fit is right. No commitment.
- Book your edit — Sign the contract and pay the 50% deposit on estimated word count.
- First pass Developmental and line/copy — I edit your manuscript with comments, tracked changes, and a full editorial report. Around 4 weeks.
- Debrief call — 1-hour video call where I walk through my recommendations so nothing’s unclear.
- You implement — Work through the feedback at your own pace. I’m available for questions.
- Second pass Line/copy focus — When you’re about 75% done with revisions, book a second pass for a final check. Around 2 weeks.
- Almost ready to publish — Your manuscript is polished and ready for a proofreader’s final check before publication
Booking & Payment
- I require a 1,500-word sample edit for developmental and line edits to ensure your writing style and my editing process align.
- I will require a signed contract and a 50% deposit on the estimated word count
- Payments can be made through Stripe or bank transfer
- Payment plans available through request
Please note all invoices are billed in GBP at a rate fixed for 2026 of 0.81 GBP to 1 USD based on 2025 averages.

What if I only need one of them?
